The election of 1800 had four candidates. This was a very bitter campaign. One of the special things about the election of 1800 was that it was the first election to be decided by The House of Representatives. John Adams lost the election to Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr was the Vice President. Ammendment 12 was a result of this election. Ammendment 12 states that the President and the Vice President run as a team and the Vice President is not the runner up in the Presidential election.
